MAC de Niteroi
Visiting Rio de Janeiro for just few days can be overwhelming since the city offers you a full agenda. But one of the activities I remember the most happened actually outside Rio, in a small city called Niteroi where MAC (Contemporary Art Museum) is located. We took a ferry to get there, then we transferred to a bus and off we went to this UFO-looking building designed by modernist architect and sculptor Oscar Niemeyer. A carioca, according to wiki he was a pioneer in exploring the formal possibilities of reinforced concrete solely for their aesthetic impact. The building is 16 meters high and its cupola has a diameter of 50 meters with three floors. Just the views of the Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, and Sugarloaf Mountain, made it worth the trip.
